My Dear Melancholy,

I'm kinda disssponited in myself. I normally watch the anime until the end regardless if it's not my personal taste. But for Super I just... idk. Have a hard time watching it. Maybe it's because it's a retelling of movies I've seen recently. It's not like I don't enjoy the changes made.. but it's like "Ehh...okay" ya feel me? I wasn't the biggest DB fan anyways but so far it seems like Super just feels lackluster. It just seems like about 26 episodes or January of next year to see new stuff over a retelling of movies that are fresh into my(and many others heads).

I'm not bashing Super. It's just.. Why should I watch it? Every since episode 3...I've been either forcing myself to sit through an episode or require a buddy to watch it for me. When I review it I try to focus on the positives but it's getting harder because I'm just feeling like I'm watching something twice ya know? Should I just wait to the U6 saga? Seems like I'm just.. uninterested in déjà vu material.

I know what you mean, the highlight for me is still Goten and Trunks fighting a snake, and that happened in episode one. Overall I think the biggest mistake they've made was setting this during the movies...And then doing nothing with it. Not only that but the manga keeps bringing up Champa, which helps to retain interest while Super...doesn't.

Episodes 3-5 were all a pretty big drag for me, but I've been enjoying the last couple. If you're not enjoying it then just stop watching, maybe come back around the universe 6 arc.

Oh yes. We haven't seen any new characters I believe. Not even a mention or cameo.

Besides snips and important parts. Don't think I've watched a full episode since 5. I like to finish what I start so kinda forcing myself here to least catch the important parts.

Sounds to me like you're just too excited for new material.

Wait it out for awhile/stop watching and then come back when it's further along. It'll probably find itself by then too.

It's because it's a retelling. Yeah it's different but we have a really good of an idea of what's going to happen. We're excited about the main fights and universe 6 stuff. Wait a bit a longer and it'll get "super" good

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Eh yeah I feel the same, I enjoy the comedy but that's about it.
Vegeta frantically making octopus balls is probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Otherwise meh, lazy animation aside the story just feels lazy too...could they not have just ended it off after FnF and had a huge universe expansion? That would have been great.

Or maybe they could have just done an OVA for the movie stuff to gloss through it for those without access to the movies.

I can see them wasting like 30 episodes on both movies, so that's gonna suck. Though I'm just putting 7 on now so maybe the pace picks up, kinda doubt it.

The series is just bad, bordering on terrible at times and has absolutely none of the interest or entertainment that we as fan used to love about the original series. It's terribly paced, mediocre to outright horrible animation, inconsistent with its artwork, the characters have made almost 180 degree turns from what they were like originally and there's little to absolutely no effort at all put into it.

The very minor things that are good are nothing more than tidbits compared to the rest.

It's not only a poor anime series but its a poor Dragon Ball series with almost nothing of what we loved about the original material in it. I find little to no effort being put into it. It has become nothing more than a cow, with Farmer Toei milking them udders until the money sacks have gone dry. Maybe you'll get some sour milk here but hey, sell it anyways cause money is money.

And thus we got a heaping helping of Sour Episode 5 milk.

The series is poor, straight and simple and frankly, even when we get to the Universe 6 stuff (If we get there at this point) I still have no hope, because if the effort shown in these last episodes are what we're getting, I have no hope for this series. It amazes me that anyone here can actually praise or support this series after the crap it's thrown out both to the anime fans and more so to the very loyal anime fans.

Don't you think you're being a bit harsh? It's fine if you don't like something, but you make it sound like the people who do like it are wrong or something.

Vegeta's character is annoying me. I'm okay with out of character comedy on occasion but he just hasn't seemed to be the Vegeta I know and love.

You should see the other guy in the dbz talking about the petition. Called me brainless :p

It's more he can't see why some are enjoying it beyond the value of laughing at it I think.
It's great some people are enjoying it, and I probably shouldn't talk considering some of the stuff I've been watching lately, but I personally don't see anything thus anime is bringing out that is worth watching making or watching it.

Entertainment is subject to opinion but there are certain things that makes something good or bad. It's no different than watching an old B-movie by Ed Wood. His works can be entertaining and worth the laugh not unlike "The Room" but it doesn't stop them from being critically poor. If someone likes Super, good on them I suppose though I don't know why personally because all the things that I and others loved about the original series is gone here and I definitely can't hold it to any good standards as a critic trying to review the material directly.

Dragon Ball Super has had completely inconsistent and terrible artwork and animation, something that is unforgivable in our time age. Characters have changed drastically from their original material with no reasons for them or added depths either. The voice acting for Kaio-sama is often poor and clearly not up to the standards he was in the past (A minor point compared to the rest but my point still stands.) The series is inconsistent to its original material and things are changed up so much they don't make sense.

And these here are the critical facts that nobody can deny. Nobody can deny that Super has had some awful animation. Nobody can deny that Kaio-Sama's voice actor is not putting in nearly the same amount of capable of effort he has done in the past. Nobody can deny that things are being changed or twisted around constantly from the original material with no reasons for it.

I don't think I'm being harsh. In fact I think I'm being far too kind. The love the fans have for this series is great and this is the stuff Toei Animation throws for its new generation? How can I not feel sickened by what feels like a huge slap to the face of fans who may have been here since the very start when the manga was being published in the 80s. It's one to have a bad series but show love and attention to it. That was the original series, it could be stupid at times but it was clear that effort and a love for the material was still there.

Why should I show any respect for something in which even the original author doesn't seem able to able to show any respect for his own work?

Just a Google search. King Kai's VA actor is very old and sick. That's why.

Which again...this is where a good animation studio would kindly let him off and found someone more capable of voicing him. He's in his 80s right now last time I checked and once it was made clear that he wasn't up to par anymore, then you'd find someone who was. I don't have anything against the man but everyone can see it and we don't want that. We want someone who can produce quality work because we deserve quality work.

It may not be his fault because hey, if someone said they'd pay me to talk, I'd be all up for that. But I'll definitely blame those in charge of voice acting for giving us such poor quality work.

Let's be thankful Nozawa's still got a lot of spunk in her voice because she's around the same age as Kaio-Sama's voice actor and I bet until the very day she stops speaking Toei Animation will always use her even if her voice acting becomes poor.

You should probably brake from it for a bit. Doing stuff repeatedly gets tiresome after you've done it before. I must say I have no problem with the retellings, like I mentioned in another topic, aside from certain animations, it's still decently flowing well. People say characters has changed (mainly the turned anti-villain to villain Birusu) for the worst, but I simply don't see what's different. Blind optimism? Perhaps but meh...
